The General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM)

Metre Convention is the agreement on units of measurement among the governments, representative of seventeen nations signed and affected it in Paris on 20 May 1875, and it was renamed International System of Units (SI) in 1960, there are three international organizations that supervise and maintain SI under the convention.

General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM) is the supreme authority, it's held once in four years, the delegates from each member government attend it, the purposes of the conference are to hear the job reports of International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM), discuss the improvement and development of SI, and vet the measuring standard the members recently researched.

CIPM is composed of eighteen representatives elected by CGPM, the duty of CIPM is to supervise International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and implement the resolutions of Metre Convention and CGPM, besides, it sets up ten consultative committees to provide consultation about measurement techniques. In addition, it promotes CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA), National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) that signed CIPM MRA could mutually recognize the international equivalence of their measurement standards and the calibration and measurement certificates, therefore, our country joined CGPM to become an associate member in 2002 and signed CIPM MRA, there are three NMIs in our country , which are National Measurement Laboratory, National Time and Frequency Standard Laboratory, and National Radiation Standard Laboratory.

Our country can realize the development and future trend of SI by attending the conference, and cooperation of other countries was established by interacting with the delegate from each member country. NMIs in our country are planned to continuously participate in the key comparisons of SI and collaborations, therefore, the measurement capability of our country can be recognized between nations, and our country strives to become a Member of CGPM.
