The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML)

The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) is an intergovernmental treaty organization that facilitates the international harmonization of the legal metrology procedure, and it sets up the standardization of legal metrology that each member refers to create the related regulations for reducing trade barriers and ensuring fair trade, OIML was therefore founded in 1955 and signed the convention. 

International Conference on Legal Metrology was held once every four years, the purpose of the conference is to discuss the policies and budget, the attendees involve members, corresponding members, international organizations, and regional organizations.

The International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML) is the organization that mainly makes decisions in OIML, it's composed of a delegate whom each member designated, the current president is Mr. Roman Schwartz, First Vice-President is Mr. Charles Ehrlich and Second Vice-President is Mr. Bobjoseph Mathew, CIML holds the meeting once a year and discusses the affairs of legal metrology over the past and next year.
 
OIML sets up 18 Technical Committees (TC) and 46 Subcommittees (SC), they develop the Organization's technical publications as the members' references for the uniformity of international legal metrology. 
Our country joined OIML as the corresponding member in 1997 and was invited to CIML by the president of OIML, and our country realized the trend and development of future legal metrology, the current situation and a future change of the international standards that TC and SC draft, the latest situation of Mutual Acceptance Arrangement (MAA), and the operation of the regional organizations of legal metrology by participating these activities. It influences the administration of legal metrology deeply in our country, and therefore striving to participate in multilateral international organizations and expanding the international cooperation of legal metrology can strengthen the status and influence of our country internationally.
