BSMI revises national standard for diesel fuel oils to ensure consumer rights BSMI, MOEA March 17, 2018

The newly revised CNS 1471-1 “Diesel fuel oils” is applicable to non-motor vehicle diesel fuels for combustion ignition engines for industrial applications, fishery engineering, mechanical engineering and generators. The classification grades are No.1-TD and No.2-TD. Although the color of regular diesel is not specified, the revised CNS 1471-1 has adopted the “Regulations for the establishment of fuel service stations for fishing ship,” which specifies that No.2-TD must be dyed black for management purposes.

The Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) said that CNS 1471-1 is based on ASTM D975 “Standard specification for diesel fuel oils” and “ISO 8217 “Petroleum products — Fuels (class F) — Specifications of marine fuels” and revised according to domestic circumstances. “Lubricity” and “electric conductivity” have been added to requirements to lower the risks of abrasive wear and ensure the safety of transportation and staff members.

The BSMI calls on the public to visit legal gas stations when in need. Consumers can call the free tip line 0800-300-818 if they come across unidentified oil products or illegal gas stations.
