An Industrial Standards Committee (ISC) was established by former Ministryof Enterprises; however, the standardization work was carried out by the National Weights and Measures Bureau (NWMB).
1943
Re-setup of the ISC.
1944
Announcement of national standards, such as CNS 1 Geometric Standard Numbers, CNS 2 Standard Diameter, CNS 3 Engineering Drawing, CNS 4 Limit and Coordination.
1946
Promulgation of the Standards Act.
1947
Merge of the ISC with the NWMB to establish the National Bureau of Standards to conduct national standardization activities, and promulgation of the "Regulations for the Development of Chinese National Standards."
1951
Promulgation of the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark."
1988
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark" and announcement of a new design for the CNS Mark.
1992
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark" and introduction of a CNS Mark design for foreign market.
1995
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark" and use of CNS 12680 (ISO 9000) series standards as the criteria for quality management.
1996
Amendment to the "Regulations for the Development of Chinese National Standards."
1997
Amendment to "the Standards Act".
1998
Amendment to the "Regulations for the Development of Chinese National Standards;" promulgation of "Enforcement Rules of the Standards Act;" and amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark."
1999
Reorganization of government agencies and the standardization activities were taken up by the newly formed "Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection" (BSMI).
2000
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark" to simplify the application procedures, and promulgation of the "Regulations Governing Fees for the Chinese National Standards Mark."
2001
Promulgation of the "Guidelines Governing Fees for the Chinese National Standards Mark," which specifically stipulated the certification mode and the time limit of related procedures; acceptance of applications for CNS Mark from foreign manufacturers.
2002
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Fees for the Chinese National Standards Mark," which stipulated the fees for on-site supervision fee and amended the CNS Mark Product Inspection Items as well as the fee schedule.
2003
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark" to include requirements for recognition of quality management system certification bodies and laboratories.
2004
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing Chinese National Standards Mark," which cancelled the requirement of CNS 12682 and permitted a foreign applicant may authorize an agent who has a house or business place in the Republic of China to act on his/her behalf.
2005
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing the Establishment of National Standards" to amend "Chinese National Standards" to "National Standards of the Republic of China."
2007
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing the Establishment of National Standards" to include that the competent institutes can compile and provide the draft preparation of national standards; and amendment to the "Regulations Governing CNS Mark" to include requirements of the third-party certification agencies.
2008
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing CNS Mark" to amend the requirement of relocation of plants; promulgation of “Directions Governing Subsidy to the Association Impels the Standardization Activity.”
2010
Amendment to the "Regulations Governing the Establishment of National Standards," which amended the range of the commission and stipulated the situations of using a corrigendum.
2011
Promulgation of "Directions Governing the Recognition of Standardization Groups.”
